Quinnipiac Meadows Preserve (Grannis Island) Walk
Come walk lightly the trails of the Quinnipiac Meadow Preserve managed by the New Haven Land Trust. the 35-acre preserve is an amazing tidal wetland, coastal forest and coastal grasslands landscape in our Bioregion. Cold Spring School Master Teacher Karen Zwick will guide the walk and provide an overview of the distinctive ecological and biodiversity characteristics of the preserve directly linked to the topography of the area and the tidal dynamic of the site. We will visit Grannis Island and learn about its cultural heritage, its connections to the Quinnipiac Indians and its distinctive value for environmental education. A member of the New Haven Land Trust will present a brief history of the site and share with us the conservation challenges the preserve currently has and what are the preservation efforts currently underway and opportunities to get involved.
We will meet at the entrance of the preserve (see directions below). We will follow the principles of leave no trace. The walk is limited to 25 people, so please RSVP to Domingo Medina at medinado@sbcglobal.net (203-444-8955). The lowest tide will be at 7:45 am and the highest tide will be at 1:55 pm.
