To document the macrobenthic structure of the lower Quinnipiac River as an "ecological benchmark" against future changes.
Evaluate healthiness and diversity of benthic communities in lower Qriver and assess effect of environmental stressors on these communities. High stability and consistency of assemblage of species found. Moderately stressed conditions also found.
To classify and assess shellfish growing water for the Quinnipiac River and New Haven Harbor.
Shellfish (mostly oysters) collected from Q river and New Haven harbor and level of pollutants found to be high. Also assessment of sewage overflow conducted in area and violations noted.

Further research into catalytic dyes as decontaminating agents was accomplished; discovered two different electrochemical pathways produced by the decontaminating agents.
Measured levels of lead and other metals was low and mostly in particulate form; however high concentrations of metal reside in parts of the river that are or had been industrialized
